Ideas for Small Bedroom Renovations

Posted on October 29, 2019

We all have our favorite spots in our homes. However, on some level, we may all agree that our bedrooms hold a very dear place in our hearts. The bedroom is where we all escape and retire after a tiring and stressful day.  This is where we find peace and comfort. However from time to time, we may encounter issues that make the bedroom less comfortable. When living in a tiny apartment in the city for example – which is typical of New York City living – it is often very difficult to end up with a bedroom that is spacious enough to be comfortable and have all the elements we want to put in it. For this reason, many people end up going for a bedroom remodel. But the thing with small bedrooms is that, it can be as difficult as remodeling bigger rooms despite its meager size. Hence, if you are planning on a small bedroom remodel soon, here are some tips on how you can make the most of that small space:

  1. Highlight the most important element in the room, your bed – Your bed is, of course, the most important object in your bedroom. If you are dealing with a small space, there is not much room to bring in as many accent pieces as you like. Hence, make you bed the best accent piece in the room. Research about do-it-yourself (DIY) stencil headboard ideas and make it complement your wall paint. Invest on quality sheets that will also complement the overall theme of the room.
  2. Create an illusion of space through the right elements – When trying to create an illusion of space and height, there are many elements that you can actually use. For one, you can make use of color. Use white or light, neutral tones that will allow light to reflect around the room. Also, use a canopy to create an illusion of heightened ceiling. These techniques can be applied anywhere else in the apartment.
  3. Choose the right prints – When dealing with small spaces, most people’s instinct is to go for minimalism. While minimalism helps, it does not mean you cannot use prints anymore. The trick is in knowing which prints to use. And in this case, stripes work best. Stripes create the illusion of width and length. It makes things look longer and higher. Use striped wallpaper to make the ceiling look higher, or striped sheets to make your bed look bigger.

You should not limit yourself in terms of colors, prints and decorative elements when doing a small bedroom remodel . The key is to know which elements, colors and prints to incorporate in the room design in order to create an illusion of space.
